  • Biography:

Dr. Robert B. Miller was born March 17, 1931 in Eureka, KS.  He married Phyllis Ann Ruthrauff on July 8, 1956.  They are the parents of three children; Deborah, Raymond and Karen.  Dr. Miller and his wife live in Columbia, MO.

Dr. Miller is a 1955 graduate of Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine.  Following a successful mixed animal practice in Warrensburg, MO, Dr. Miller was Associate Professor with the Missouri University College of Veterinary Medicine’s Department of Medicine and Veterinary Pathology for 20 years, retiring in 1999.  He was then rehired to work with the college’s Missouri Institute for Cattle Establishment Program.

Dr. Miller received the 2012 Missouri Veterinary Medical Association’s Veterinarian of the Year Award at ceremonies held in St. Charles, MO.  He is also the recipient of the 2004 Alumni Recognition Award from the MU College of Veterinary Medicine.  At that time, the college established a large animal medicine scholarship in his name.

Dr. Jim Moorhead had this to say about Dr. Miller:  “Dr. Miller has not changed his demeanor nor his approach to veterinary medicine in the 40 years I’ve known him.  He has represented our profession as a kind and compassionate practitioner while constantly striving to advance his knowledge base.  The Warrensburg area lost a talented food animal practitioner when Dr. Miller moved to the University of Missouri although his “legend” remains in Johnson County”.

He is Diplomate Emeritus and past president of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners and is a past president of the Western Veterinary Conference.  Dr. Miller remains active with the WVC and was instrumental in the design of the Large Animal Facility at the state-of-the-art Oquendo Center in Las Vegas for continuing education in veterinary medicine.

He was the 2011 MVMA West Central District president and is an honorary member of the Missouri Academy of Veterinary Practice.  He holds numerous published articles in various veterinary journals.
