    Dr. Wesley H. Wertz was born and raised on a farm south of Quinter KS.  He attended grade and high schools in Quinter, and then attended Kansas State College (University now).  From 1940-1944 he was in the ASTP (Army Specialized Training) Program (accelerated curriculum).

    Dr. Wertz began practice for Dr. Robert E. Gouge, Sedalia MO from September, 1944 – 1945.  He then took over Dr. Hubert Carver’s practice in Higginsville MO in January, 1946 (mixed practice) to November, 1949, when he joined Dr. Marvin Twiehaus in a mixed practice in St. Charles MO. 

    Dr. Wertz served in the U.S. Air Force as a captain from 1953 to 1955.   In 1957, he formed a partnership with Dr. James H. Evans in St. Charles MO.

    Dr. Wertz served as President of the MVMA in 1964.  He also served as the Missouri Delegate to the AVMA House of Delegates.  He served 5 years on the Council of Education of the AVMA.  He was awarded Veterinarian of the year in 1966 by the MVMA. 

    He belongs to the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and Shriners organizations.  He was a charter member of the St. Charles Chapter of SPEBSQSA, an organization that promotes barbershop singing in America.  He is an active member of the United Methodist Church, having served on various committees and as a Trustee of the church.  He also sings in the church choir.  Dr. Wertz served as Merit Badge Counselor and as District Chairman for the Daniel Boone District of Boy Scouts of America.  He served on the personnel committee of the police and fire boards for the City of St. Charles.

    Dr. Wertz and Dr. Evans retired from practice in 1991. 

    Dr. and Mrs. Wertz have two children, Richard S. Wertz, Liberty MO, and Christine Wertz McConnell of Green Bay WI, along with four grandchildren.
