Our first child was born premature in April 2005 and lived one week.  In January 2006, we got Sugar.  She helped me heal so much emotionally and I will always be thankful to her for that.  She has always been a sweet, loving dog who never asked much.  She was a little wary of our daughter when she was born later in 2006 but they quickly became good buddies.  I have lots of memories of Sugar. I was quite prone to morning sickness when pregnant, usually early in the morning.  I'd go to the bathroom and get sick and Sugar always came in to check on me, then she'd go jump up in the bed and wake up my husband to come make sure I was ok.  She loved to open the lid off an empty two liter bottle.  She was always at the front door to greet us when we came in.  She would climb up on the arm of the couch and fall asleep sitting up (see pictures).  She loved to be scratched at the base of the back of her ear and she LOVED food.  We didn't intentionally feed her "people" food but she sure did her best to steal some.  My funniest memory was when she got out the front door and found a dead squirrel in the yard.  It was stiff as a board and I had a piece of the sheet music to Amazing Grace nearby so I grabbed the squirrel with the music and had a tug of war with Sugar.  I wish I had a video of that, it was funny as could be!  She was also a huge chicken.  If I'd hear a noise at night and go investigate, she was always with me, right behind my legs!  It all boils down to she was a member of our family.  We loved her and she loved us. We will always carry a little piece of her in our hearts.  I will never throw away a two liter bottle without thinking of her and I sure do miss her when I cook.  She was always right there hoping I'd drop something.  If she did wander off while I was cooking, the minute I said "dinner's ready", she was first to the kitchen!  We love you Sugar.  Rest in peace sweet dog.
