Dr. Henry Clay Conrad, Jr., decided at about fifteen years of age to become a veterinarian.  After graduating from Kansas City Veterinary College in 1915, he began his first practice for a year in Cowgill MO.  After marrying his high school sweetheart, they moved to Polo MO where he practiced 42+ years (predominantly large animal) and retired.  Dr. Conrad always remembered the large class (over 50 from Texas) from K.C.V.C., and the fact there were, at the time, three veterinary schools in Kansas City MO.  Dr. Conrad retired in 1958 and enjoyed farming and raising hogs and cattle in his retirement years.  He felt the most important advancement in veterinary medicine during his career was the vaccine for hog cholera prevention and vaccines developed for “just about everything.”

Dr. Conrad’s son, M.D. (Dean) Conrad, D.V.M., nominated his father for this honor and when asked about the relationship between him and his father, he responds “the very best and much mutual respect!”
