Evelyn Bock

  • Biography:

My name is Evelyn A Bock, DVM. I live and practice in the South County area of St Louis, Missouri at Southwick Veterinary Hospital, 4814 Lemay Ferry Road 63129.

I graduated Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1968. There were five women in my class. The Kansas legislature were aghast at that number. However, all of us have practiced our profession in either private practice, university or industry practice and represented veterinary medicine well.  I am most grateful to the state of Kansas for allowing me to become a veterinarian.

I grew up in the small southwestern Kansas community of Cimarron, Kansas and graduated high school at Dodge City, Kansas in 1962. Even though I did not grow up on the farm, I knew by the time I was a freshman that I wanted a career in medicine and a career caring for animals so veterinary medicine was an easy choice.

I came to St. Louis directly out of veterinary college. I practiced at the old Humane Society of Missouri Clinic and Hospital from July 1968 until February 1975 when I started a shopping center practice. We moved to a free-standing hospital in 1995 where I practice today.

I am married to Robert Arrowood. He has retired from the U.S. Department of Labor Wage Hour Division as an investigator. We have no children.

Thank you to Dr Kaitlyn DeWilde for nominating me to the MVMA Honor Roll. Dr DeWilde has been so helpful in advising about social media at the hospital level. Thank you so much for the nomination. I would also like to thank the late Suzanne Saueressig, DVM. Dr Saueresssig was my boss at the Humane Society Clinic and Hospital. She was an inspiration, supporter, and mentor.

I was a founding member of the Animal Emergency Clinic in 1997 and served as a board member as treasurer for many years. I belong to South County Bible Church.  I am a member of the Greater St Louis VMA, Missouri VMA, Kansas VMA and the AVMA. I have had to curtail my bicycle riding these last few years.

My husband and I did bike trips all over the USA and some in Europe. We rode with the Kaldi Team for the Annual MS150 Bicycle Ride to raise money for multiple sclerosis from 2001 to 2012. These days we stay busy gardening.
