    Dr. George F. Fischer earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine graduating from the University of Missouri-School of Veterinary Medicine in 1954.  He soon entered the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps.

    Dr. Fischer married Doris M. Fischer and together they had two children, Carla and Carl Fredrick.

    Dr. Fischer became a U.S. Army veterinarian from 1954 to 1981.  His job included meat inspection, Army post hygiene, equine and small animal medicine, work with national (local) veterinarians at foreign Army posts.  He was involved in laboratory diagnosis involving Foot and Mouth and other exotic diseases.  He was the commander of a veterinary detachment in Europe, and Chief of Quality Assurance and Technical Operations at the Defense Personnel Support Center at Philadelphia PA.  He was stationed at Fort Sam Houston TX, Houston, TX, Camp Toolters, TX, Panama City, Panama, Columbia, Fort Leavenworth KS, Vietnam, Germany and Philadelphia PA.  After graduating from the Command and General College at Fort Leavenworth in 1966, Dr. Fischer was sent to Chicago to teach at the U.S. Army Meat and Dairy Hygiene School.  From there he was sent to San Francisco, to command a unit of 54 men and in May, 1968, the unit went to Vietnam.  All 54 men with him returned safely.  Their responsibility was caring for the canine units and for food inspection.  His next assignment was to the Defense Personnel Support Center in Chicago.  In 1973 he was assigned to Germany as Commander of Veterinary Detachment.  He retired from the military in 1981. 

    Dr. Fischer has been involved as past President of the Northwest Missouri Veterinary Medical Association and past member of the Executive Board of this association, past President and member of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Association, and board member of the Missouri Veterinary Medical Foundation.  He is a lifetime member of both the Northwest Missouri Veterinary Medical Association and Missouri Veterinary Medical Association. 

    Dr. Fisher has also been involved in his community holding positions as follows:  Chairman of 4-county 911 system since 1992; active in his church and a board member on church committees; member on the ambulance board of DeKalb County; Trustee of Township Board, Sherman Township, as well as being a member of Fort Leavenworth Armed Forces Exchange.

    Dr. Fischer was awarded many medals during his military career some of which are the World War II Victory Medal, Army Commendation Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal; Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Defense Superior Service Medal; Bronze Star Medal; and Joint Services Commendation Medal.

    Dr. Fischer followed in the footsteps of his father, the late Dr. Carl Fischer who graduated from the Kansas City Veterinary College in 1912 and went on to establish his practice in Garden City MO.
