Date of Birth: 10-22-28
Place of Birth: Shelbyville MO
Dr. Perry’s first wife, Charlotte, passed away 3-26-90. He later married his current wife, Joan Allison. They have eight grown children between the two. They and the grandchildren are “the delight of our lives.”
When asked when and why he decided to become a veterinarian, Dr. Perry indicates he did so as a youth in high school. He had sheep and swine as FFA projects. The veterinarians he encountered with these projects were his inspiration to become a veterinarian. He graduated from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine and began his first practice (general, mainly food animal) as part of a three-man practice in Brookfield MO from 1959 until 1992. Dr. Harland Sprouse and he designed and built the Brookfield Veterinary Clinic about twenty years ago.
Dr. Perry has retired and is active in his church, enjoys square dancing; delivers Meals on Wheels; Literacy Council; gardening and yard; playing bridge, walking, working with cattle; and visiting his children and grandchildren.
When asked how Dr. Perry thinks veterinary medicine will change in the next ten years, he indicates he believes “we will continue to see more specialization in practice. Applications of the new wave of medicine that are in the research labs today will be used every day in practice in ten years.” He believes the fields of genetic mapping and immunology are the cutting edge of all medicine today and that they “hold the keys to a longer and better life for both man and beast.”
