    Dr. Gregory Popp was born March 5, 1949 in Jefferson City MO.  He grew up in the Jefferson City area where, at age 16, he observed the profession of veterinary medicine while working as a kennel boy for Dr. E. E. Burgess. 

    In 1970, Dr. Popp entered the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine.  Intertwined with his studious ways, he recalls fond memories of Thursday nights at Village Town Pizza (VI) and did the 18th amendments on Friday nights!!  He recalls the “Block System” and, of course, clinics and all the first-time experiences that go along with it.  Through these years, Dr. Popp formed lifelong friendships that are still strong today.

    He graduated from the University of Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine in 1974.  Dr. Popp began his profession in small animal medicine at the Washington Veterinary Clinic in Washington IL.  His first case there was a Cocker Spaniel from southern Missouri with intestinal histoplasmosis.

    It was at this point he met Roma Springer.   They were married in 1975.  They have two children; their son, Matt, 34, and their daughter, Sarah, 32.  Matt is a graduate of Linn State Technical College and Sarah graduated from Missouri State University.

    In 1980, Dr. Popp transitioned into mixed animal practice, but still predominantly small animal.  He designed and built the clinic he currently owns and in which he practices, Weathered Rock Veterinary Clinic, in Jefferson City MO.

    Among his honors are:  Phi Zeta 1974, Missouri Veterinary Medical Association Presidential Award 2000; and Missouri Veterinary Medical Foundation Distinguished Service Award for 22 years of service in 2012.

    He is also the Fund Raising Chair for MVMF; Chairman of MVMA, LLC, and has been President and Secretary-Treasurer of the East Central Veterinary Medical Association. 

    During his career, Dr. Popp points to the advancements he has witnessed and which have made large strides in the delivery of veterinary medical care, including computerized records, in-house diagnostics, and laser surgery.  He foresees more changes in the profession in the future, including more multi-man practices with more specialties.
